'Get Involved' update from Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust
13th November 2024

Welcome to your Get Involved Update November 2023

Dear Kinnerley

Lots of exciting developments at Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital as we start to think about Christmas and winter, which are both fast approaching!  This edition has an update on our Hospitals Transformation Programme and anyone who has visited the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital recently will have seen the massive amount of building work happening.  Please read on to find out more.

Talking about Winter, the Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Integrated Care System (ICS) has relaunched its Think Which Service campaign to encourage residents to make informed decisions about their healthcare, helping ease pressures on emergency services. Whether it’s a minor ailment, mental health concern or a more serious issue, knowing where to go is essential. For more information about the Think Which Service campaign and local health services, visit: http://thinkwhichservice.co.uk

The Government have launched a national conversation about the future of the NHS and is calling on everyone who uses or works in the NHS to have their say. This is your chance to have your say to help build a health service fit for the future. Your voice matters.  You can learn more about how to get involved by visiting Change NHS

Kind Regards

Julia Clarke, Director of Public Participation

Visiting Royal Shrewsbury Hospital

Building work for the Hospitals Transformation Programme is underway at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital site. This has meant some changes to the entrances and carparks around the site.  If you are coming to site for an outpatients appointment, please allow an additional 30 minutes to park and get to your appointment.  Our volunteers have been invaluable throughout the changes and are supporting patients and visitors to find their way around. If you can't find your way, please ask a member of staff or volunteer and they will be able to help you.

Site maps and details of available car parks are available on the hospital website, please click below to see more details

Elective (planned) joint replacement surgeries and inpatient orthopaedic procedures coming back to PRH

Teams at Princess Royal Hospital have been working hard to provide a suitable environment for patients having planned procedures to recover after their surgery.

Elective surgery will start in phases with hip operations first, and will run alongside the launch of our enhanced recovery orthopaedic programme. This will allow us to reduce the amount of time our patients spend in hospital following hip and knee replacement surgery.

We are aiming for our first Day 0 hip or knee replacement discharge, when a patient is discharged from the hospital on the same day as their surgery, as this is the gold standard being sought nationwide.

Draft Communications Strategy Survey

We are developing a new Communications Strategy for 2024-2028, and asking for feedback from the public to help shape it.

The goal of the strategy is to ensure the Trust has excellent communications to support the delivery of high-quality patient care. It outlines the Trust's key principles and priorities for communications over the next 4 years.

The draft strategy is currently available here. This is a high-level strategy for 2024-2028 outlining our key principles and priorities and how they support the Trust’s overall strategy. Every year, we will develop an accompanying action plan that aligns with the Trust’s Operational Plan to guide our work.

We are asking people to provide comments and feedback through an online survey by November 15th. This feedback will be used to finalise the strategy, which will then be reviewed by the Trust Board in early 2025.

If you have any other questions or need more information, you can email sath.commsteam@nhs.net or call 01743 261378.
